This is an island region to the east of the Iberian Peninsula, situated in the Mediterranean Sea. Its surface area is 5,014 km2 (3,116 mi2). Its capital is Palma de Mallorca, on the island of Majorca.
On these islands, a dialect is spoken, Mallorquín, which is derived from Catalan, probably due to its geographic proximity. Temperatures are moderate in winter and not too high in summer. Precipitation levels are relatively low.
This is a region which depends greatly on tourism. The majority of its tourists are foreigners. Agriculture is rather uncommon. The best cheese from Menorca is the Mahón variety.
