This region is located in the eastern part of the peninsula, on the Mediterranean coast. It borders the Community of Valencia to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east and Andalusia to the south and west. The total surface area is 11,317 km2 (7,032 mi2). It is uniprovincial and Murcia is the capital. Its climate is mostly dry, with scarce rain and high temperatures in the summer and more moderate temperatures in the winter. It is a region of irrigated crops and the service industry (mostly tourism) is very important. Goats are most predominant in the region. Here, the most notable cheeses are Murcia and Murcia al vino (Murcia in wine).
